We all love the iPhone. It has all of the apps that you want and sleek and sexy design and it is just darn easy to use. What many find frustrating though, are the times when it decides to run super slow! The immediate thought may be that your iPhone needs to be replaced, but hold on to your wallet. This may not be the case. In fact, you may be able to speed it up and clean it up fairly easily.
Here are some basic strategies that you can use to speed up your iPhone.
1) Update The Software
One thing people forget to do is to update their phones. Keeping your phone updated with the latest software is essential. Every software application can has bugs and issues. The updates to fix these glitches can usually solve many of the issues, that you may be facing.
So how do you update your phone?
a) Make sure you have the a copy of iTunes software installed on your PC or Mac. Simply connect your phone to your computer using the usb wire provided.
Once the software is installed, you need to log in to your account. Once logged in, you will see a popup saying that there is an update for your phone. Follow the on screen instructions and it will update your iPhone for you. It’s that easy.
b) With recent updates you can also update your phone over wi-fi now. Go into Settings > General > Update. Remeber to back everything up to your iCloud account first to avoid losing any data
2) Close Applications When Not In Use
Make sure that you do not have a ton of applications running in the background. Simply double click the home button at the bottom of your phone. This will bring up screens for every app you have running. To close these apps down, simply touch the app screen and swipe your finger up. This will close the app immediately and make sure its not using memory or battery when your not using it. Remember to do this, at least once a day, to keep your iPhone running smoothly.
3) Keyboard Problems
If you’re experiencing keyboard lag, go into > Settings. Refresh the settings and keyboard dictionary by oepning Settings > General > Reset. This should, in most cases, fix the keyboard lag.
4) Remove Unwanted Apps
Do you have apps on your phone that seemed cool at the time that you purchased them, but now you never use? Deleting those old apps may help to speed up your phone, and reduce some performance issues. Some older apps, simply, don’t run correctly on newer iPhones.
5) Clear Your Storage
Check and see how much storage that you have. If your iPhone is at full capacity, it will run a lot slower. You can find out how much storage that you have left by going to Settings > General, > About. If your storage is almost full, you will want to consider either deleting apps, pictures and videos or uploading them to a computer or the iCloud. If you are the type that loves to play games, take pictures and film your experiences, you may want to go ahead and pay for more iCloud storage.
6) Clear Your Memory
Optimize your memory. There is an app called SYS Activity Manager + on the AppStore. This app allows you to clean your memory the way that you want it. Just this little tweak could help to speed up your iPhone.
7) Clear Your Browser
Clear your internet browser’s data and cookies. These may be taking up a lot of your memory. Go to your Settings app and then to the icon for Safari. Click on the clear history and clear data and cookies tabs.
8) Remove Automated Processes
Stop automated processes. Go to Settings then iTunes and App Store then turn off the automatic downloads. Also turn off the background app refresh. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Background App refresh. Turn it off and tap the disable tab.
9) Delete Old Messages
Delete your text messages. Go to your Text Messages app. Click edit. Delete any old text messages that you do not need.
10) Delete Old Music
Delete music that you don’t listen to. Go to your Music app. Find the song that you no longer want. Swipe your finger over it to the right. Click delete. Rinse and repeat for other songs.
11) Its Time To Reboot!
Finally, reboot your phone by holding the off button on the top of your phone and the round button on the bottom of your phone at the same time.
Doing just these eleven things will definitely make your iPhone run faster. However if you’re still having problems, i’d suggest doing a full wipe of the phone back to factory settings. If you are going to fully wipe your phone, make sure you back up everything becuase nothing will be saved. If you have any tips for speeding up the iPhone please leave them below.
